The celebration known as Pride dates back to 1969 in Manhattan, when a riot broke out in response to police harassment of LGBT patrons at the Stonewall Inn. Jojo wrote this song to commemorate the event and to remind the world of the nature of the since corporate-washed march. She attended Pride in Manhattan on its 50th anniversary on 2019 to perform there on the streets.
